Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka. the Penguin, steps in to take over the Gotham crime world. With the exception of the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful. However, for his own series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. The DC Studios logo is located in a rainy Gotham alley. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Featured on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’. The Batman and I imagine that those who haven’t seen the latter will be a bit lost. But I watched The Batman a while back and that series did an admirable job of quickly reacquainting me with where the movie left off, and without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. It also nicely captures the aesthetic and dark tone of the movie, though the series has a lot more moments of sly levity than the movie. As in The Batman, Colin Farrell does a great job of portraying The Penguin as a stereotypical “street guy” mobster: “rude, profane, mercurial and prone to violence; but also shrewd, cunning and able to read people. The character may be completely different from the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about the show casting The Penguin as a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if The Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain a full season. But for now, it’s a good start.
